In Brazil, there is a campaign to encourage people to send letters to the elderly people.

The government of São Paulo launched the project “A gesture of affection for nobody to be alone” for elderly people living in nursing homes to receive messages during the quarantine. The letters are sent to emails from 576 nursing homes that are on the list available on the government website. Because of the pandemic, visits to 18,657 elderly people were suspended in March.

The profiles are published on the “Inumeráveis” website that was launched in late April. The journalists’ goal is that the victims of Covid-19 are not seen as statistical numbers but as humans.
