The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is using mobile money to support vulnerable Somalians during the Covid-19 pandemic. Before the pandemic, the organization would use fingerprint verification for beneficiaries collecting their mobile money transfers however as an added Covid-19 safety measure the organization is now using GPS-enabled photos, taken at the time of beneficiary registration and verification instead. They also plan on introducing voice and facial recognition apps.
