In Somalia, iRise Hub, the first innovation Hub in Mogadishu, launched a two-day virtual innovation challenge to create solutions to combat Covid-19.
The hackathon was held on 21 and 22 April, calling for local ideas. Behind this initiative there is Mogadishu’s first tech community. Local partners include Watch Xared Clean Water Solution, a startup that filters and purifies water and provides it to low-income families at affordable prices.

In South Africa, Zindi, a data science competition platform, organized a Pan-African virtual hackathon to find solutions to the effects of Covid-19.
